Don't Let the Heat Spoil Your Products this Summer

Have you ever left your hair pomade on the dash of your car or forgotten about the beard balm sitting in your mailbox during the 100 degree July heat? Melted products not only can be a waste that hurts your pocket book, the heat can also ruin and spoil most products if exposed to a hot climate for too long.

Grooming products like beard oil, hair pomade, mustache wax etc.. tend to be made from all natural ingredients that can be severely affected by being left out in a warm environment. Unless you are buying items with preservatives and harmful chemicals, then just as any food most natural plant based ingredients have optimal storage temperatures. Also, putting grooming products thru extreme climates can cause the shelf-life of the product to quickly dwindle.

Below are a couple of tips to consider in the future to help ensure you aren’t letting your grooming supplies, or your money, melt away!

Track Your Packages

The #1 reason our customers contact us here with melted product issues is that they did not realize their package was left sitting on their doorstep in the hot summer sun. So if it’s that time of year, or you live in a consistently warm climate, then we highly recommend tracking your package to ensure you or someone is home to accept the delivery during the warm months.

*Tip - if no one can be home then maybe leave a note with your post man and ask him to leave the package on the side of the house in the shade, or with a trusted neighbor.

Proper Storage

Even if your grooming product arrived in the mail without melting, you still need to consider where and how you are storing it. Leaving your oils, balms, and waxes in the glovebox or dash of your car is the most common, user-error, way to melt your products. Grooming supply made from natural and plant based ingredients typically needs to be stored at normal room-temperature ranges between 60-75 degrees. As any colder temps may cause your product to harden / solidify and any warmer may cause the ingredients to spoil and melt.

*Tip – some gentlemen like to keep one product at home and another on hand for work or the gym. Simply use a gym bag or laptop bag to help transport your products in a nice shady place to help prevent the temptation of leaving in the hot car.

A Few Things to Remember
Always know what you are purchasing as well as where it is coming from before placing an order online. Consider things like whether or not the company provides tracking info and how long the package may be in shipping transit. Also, does the item come with a good return policy or a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, like we have here at Vintage Grooming if it arrives melted? Remember, the more educated you are before making a purchase the happier you will be with the results!
